Lovely Bones ignores compelling story

Review: Great cast can't save 'Last Station'
It's easy enough to venerate a saint, even of the secular variety, but you wouldn't want to find yourself married to one.
Lovely Bones ignores compelling story

Photo provided by Dreamworks Studios/ Saoirse Ronan stars as Susie Salmon, a young girl murdered at age 14, who watches her family and her killer from a place between Heaven and Earth.

'Lovely Bones' misses balance novel achieved
Narrated by a murdered 13-year-old girl looking down upon her family from heaven, Alice Sebold's 2002 novel "The Lovely Bones" managed an impressive feat: It held the divine and the earthly in delicate balance. But in his badly misjudged, terminally uninvolving film version, director Peter Jackson ("The Lord of the Rings") conjures up two completely distinct universes -- a lush, computer-generated heaven, and a somber, gritty, 1970s-era Philadelphia -- and never do the twain meet.

'Youth in Revolt'

"Youth in Revolt" isn't bad -- the cast is too good for it to be bad -- but archly comic coming-of-age fables are tricky things, and this adaptation of the first three C.D. Payne stories about an Oakland teenager's improbable life, times, fantasies and picaresque sexual adventures does not precisely feel like This Year's Stuff.

Start the new year with some old-fashioned values
If you, as a parent of a teen or tween, have begun to think that young girls are going a bit too far, you might be right. With the popularity of videos like "Girls Gone Wild" where amateurs are baring all, and a celebrity culture with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan flashing at every opportunity, one might ask, where have morals and manners gone?

SHE came home to Sydney to promote the new Transformers movie but Isabel Lucas’s over-zealous US publicist meant the trip was largely wasted.

Photographers were not only barred from any interviews she conducted, they were not allowed at Tuesday night’s premiere in Bondi Junction.

It’s understood Lucas was happy to poseand did for an old paparazzo friend who contacted her directly.

Instead of vivid photos of Lucas at the launch, her US publicist, who flew back to LA with her charge yesterday, issued this bland handout photograph.
